From their posh Uptown Minneapolis office, Marcella Marshall and Tasha Griffin, the Midwest Divas, are busy planning events, training new staff and getting the entire office ready for the filming of their new reality television show. A steady stream of traffic comes in and out of their small boutique-styled office space, as the ladies calmly recline back on leather seats. Keeping their stilettos planted firmly on the ground and their laptops blazing.
These Divas are meticulously planning for their next big event, Fabulosity: A Pampering, Shopping and Networking Experience, Saturday August 7th hosted by the W Hotel (Foshay Tower), in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis.
“We are gearing up for a little Midwest fashion history,” shouts out Griffin as she grabs her designer handbag and pulls out a notepad. Marshall and Griffin and a team of over ten people have planned this first annual event. “This first event is already going extremely well so we are planning to reproduce it semi-annually, the next will be Valentine’s Day themed in February 2011,” explains Marshall, Executive Director/Founder of Midwest Divas. “We are on a mission to make a difference.”
Their mission involved filling a void in the local scene and it was easy for the Divas, they know exactly what the Twin Cities are missing. “Midwest women who are spoiled by the fashion and beauty offerings of larger cities like Los Angeles or New York, will be able to finally find solace at Fabulosity. It is our mission to honor everything that is fabulous within them”, beams Griffin, Midwest Divas Creative Director, rushing off to answer her phone.
Marshall and Griffin anticipate Fabulosity will bring local hipsters out in packs for some much needed “pampering time” and something much more important.
Marshall adds, “People should know, Fabulosity is anti-superficial. Being superficial is no longer fabulous. We proudly boast our mission is deeper than face value.” The Midwest Divas have enlisted the support of many local businesses to help raise funds for a cause very close to their hearts, Ovarian Cancer.
“15,000 women die every year from Ovarian Cancer and we have all been touched by it and decided we had to figure out a way to contribute,” explains Marshall.
To cement their commitment, they teamed up with the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA) whose goal is to fund ovarian cancer research in Minnesota, raise awareness of the disease and to provide support to women with ovarian cancer and their families.
Along side MOCA other vendors and attendees include: Smart Water, Rox Minneapolis, OPM, YQY, Zelaz, Coco & Cole, Mi Armadio, IamMoody, Gittleson Jewelers, ReVamp, Touched by an Angel, Go Health Chiropractic, Wax Kitten, Troe Williams, Vidita, Dirty Denim, Vandalism Designs, Charolette Ann’s Boutique, ETE Handbags, Starr Hair Design, ThinkThin, Thomasina’s Cashew Brittle, Body Magic, Europe Shoes & Such and many more. “Our vendor booths are going fast, each day we have great new additions, this will be an event to remember!” says Marshall.
There will be a silent auction to benefit MOCA. The Divas are taking donations until the day of the event to raise funds for this worthy cause. Check out the Midwest Divas on www.twincitieslive.com August 6th on Dez’s “Weekend Where To Go” Segment at 3:00 p.m.!
