2010 Interview: Jimmy Rosemond

Seasoned Hip-Hop Impresario
Jimmy Rosemond (Czar Entertainment)
By Kandis Knight

Managing an artist’s career in today’s hip-hop climate is arduous.  Jimmy Rosemond, CEO of Czar Entertainment can attest to that.  Rosemond, is most notably known for managing West Coast rappers, The Game and Too Short and for managing his own industry crises.

“I think that there are not a lot of good managers out there and I think there’s a misconception of what management is,” explains the 14-year music industry veteran.

From his well publicized beefs with Tupac and more recently with Tony Yayo, Rosemond has endured it all for his love of building music careers.  “Experience is the main thing at this point, that’s the advantage I may have over the young manager.  A lot of times you just have to know the right people to call in order to get the right things done.”

Through a fire storm of controversy, The Game’s Doctor’s Advocate was certified platinum, under Rosemond’s leadership. Geffen Record’s executive, Greg Miller, says The Game’s next album is set for release in 2008.

“A good manger is one that is able to take care of the artist from A to Z and that would require his money, his business, his scheduling, you know, intertwining and being that liaison between the artist and the record company or any business ventures that they are in.  And sometimes you know a good manager is one who even manages the artist’s personal life.”

Single Parents Your Presence is Requested for
The Official Book Signing for Pieces,
A Single’s Parent’s Guide

ATLANTA, GA May 20 /PRNewswire/ --Author Alisha L. Gordon, M.Ed. wants to meet Atlanta’s single parents at Vino Libro for a special book signing dedicated to you.  The evening will be filled with wine, celebration and single parenting stories and anecdotes.  Gordon is celebrating the official release of her new book, Pieces: Finding the Missing Pieces is Easier Than You Think.

Gordon, whose work has been featured in Upscale Magazine, Spelman College’s Spelman Spotlight, Morehouse College’s The Maroon Tiger and BREAK Magazine asks, “What do the 9.7 million single mothers in the U.S. have in common?”

Join Gordon as she discusses the “pieces” she believes single parents are missing. Pieces is a nonfiction book that reverberates beyond race, status quo, and class structure; the story is about self revelation and finding those missing pieces in our lives.  Through engaging personal anecdotes Gordon motivates single parents to work towards personal goals and aspirations.

“Alisha pours her heart out in order to help restore the many women out there who seemed to have lost their way when it comes to the balancing act of it all. It uplifts, inspires, teaches and causes every reader to reflect. Soul food at its finest,” explains Michelle Johnson, a single mother who recently finished reading Pieces.

While the book’s target audience is for single mothers, the book proves to be one that engages all women in finding their best selves. It gives women the opportunity to reflect and regain a sense of purpose, and if you're lucky, a few laughs and chuckles in between.

"Being a single parent is one of the most difficult things I have ever had to endure.  I wish there was a book like Pieces for me when I was at my lowest points or just needed motivation to make it through the day.  Make sure to come out and find those missing pieces with me," explains Gordon.

Vino Libro is located at 933 Garrett Street SE Atlanta, GA. The event begins promptly at 8 p.m.

Books will be on sale for $15 and cash and personal checks will be accepted.

2010 Client Roster: Kena Sage

Kena Sage
By Kandis Knight

As a very young girl, Urban Gold recording artist Kena Sage spent most of her time watching her mother sing along seventies disco diva, Lolita Holloway. This was where Kena acquired her acumen as an artist, always pushing herself to do better and be better, following in her mother’s footsteps.  Kena credits Diana Ross and her mother as being her greatest influences.  In fact, young Kena listened to her mother sing the “Lady Sings the Blues” album so much; she thought her mother and Diana were the same person.

Kena studied dance, modern jazz, tap and ballet, before embarking on a music career.  The Chicago native’s introduction into the music industry came as a member of the Warner Bros., female recording group, Phajja.  Kena was the artistic force behind the group.  Touted as the “it” female quartet for the label, Phajja toured with such platinum selling recording artists as Usher, Brian McKnight, and Eric Benet, to name a few.  During her stint with Phajja, Kena developed a reputation as a stellar performer and choreographer.

Marketing her own product line of oils and scents led to a brief move to Atlanta, where Kena continued practicing choreography for a number of artists.  During the same time, Kena also embarked on a poetry and spoken word career.  “Something was calling me to do myself,” she remembers.  Although a couple of new singing groups were in hot pursuit, Kena decided it was time to do “Kena.”

Kena moved to New York and began working on her solo career at the same time she steadily pursued her passion as a songwriter.  “I’ve been blessed to have been around the right people,” states Kena, “my most significant challenges have always led to a new and better opportunity.  They’ve also allowed me the opportunity to collaborate with such artists as Truth Hurts, Tone “Cat” Wilson, Mario Winans, Idee Invisable Hands, Budda Ninja, and Label Mate Spike Reble,” she explains.

Roland Russell, CEO/A&R, Urban Gold Records had this to say about Kena; “As the "First Lady," of  Urban Gold Records, and a music industry triple threat - Singer, Songwriter and Performer, Kena is poised to be an artist to be reckoned with.  I think she will prove to be a positive influence on females of all ages and backgrounds.  Not only is she talented, she's beautiful both inside and out.”

Ask Kena about her poetic style of songwriting and she’ll reply, “I’m inspired by the music, the melody moves me and tells me what to write.”  Her “freestyle” way of writing has no limits; she draws you in with songs like “Love Me,” “I Cry,” and “Dum Da Da,” the first single release.  Kena transports you into a fun, flirty vibe with “Baby” and “Hella Sexy,” produced by SomeThing for the People.

Step into the "PlayGround" and let Kena Sage take your “Soul” for a ride.

Interview: Dj Enferno

Always Ahead of The Game
By Kandis Knight
Published in 4Seen Magazine

ATG (Ahead of the Game) Djs, is a Minneapolis-based brand receiving notoriety across the Midwest to the Dirty South.  While living in Atlanta I was surprised to hear their buzz.  Naturally when I landed in Minneapolis, interviewing ATG’s Dj Enferno, was on top of my to do list.

I sat down with Enferno in Uptown, a sky bar with the backdrop of Downtown Minneapolis made the perfect setting.  Over seafood and drinks, I learned more about the Dj collective from Minneapolis that has the music industry knocking.

To die-hard fans, Dj “Dante” Enferno is more than a Dj, he is the pulse of the Mid-Western, urban nightlife.  The accolades Enferno receives from fans as far away as Japan, are due to the appreciation people feel for his unique interpretation of music and culture.

Watching, Enferno work on a steamy Minneapolis Night at the Historic, First Avenue Night Club and you begin to see how he passionately creates art with music.  Like connecting dots, he works the crowd like magic.  His “kenetic” ability to “crowd rock” is impressive at least.  If you have ever watched an artist paint a blank canvass you know what I mean.  He connects with the crowd on a personal level and once he has you, he guides you through the music taking your mind, body and soul on a journey.

“People may not necessarily like a particular song but they will give it an ear because it is being played by a Dj in a club,” laughs the 29 year-old maestro.  By day however, Enferno is a regular guy, holding down a cushy, corporate Computer Help Desk position at Nash Finch in Edina.

“The current state of hip-hop is wack, right now everybody is doing the same things.  Roscoe Dash came out and he had his own style, now you got Roscoe copycats.  Everything is so cookie cutter right now.  However, on the good side, music is happier these days, in the late 90s to the 2000s music was not very happy, the vibe was not happy, I am glad dance music is back,” explains Enferno.

Full of passionate artist swagger, Enferno can best be described as a gifted and talented urban storyteller who has superstar written on his forehead in fluorescent paint.  To the point, the President of Hittmenn DJs, an International record-breaking conglomerate is cosigning Enferno and his ATG Djs all the way from Atlanta.

“I am not a mainstream Dj I am an everything Dj, if you need something for your Bar Mitzvah, I got you,” Enferno insists.

Enferno’s advice to new artists is simple, “stop calling yourselves local, because you are putting yourself in a box.  Why compete with people that are on the same level as you?  You need to be competing with national artists.”

When he is not Djing, Enferno is the spokesman for the wildly popular youth movement, Hood Nerds, LLC, International, based in Minneapolis.  Founded and Operated by teens, www.hoodnerds.com.

Retired NFL Players Launch the Retired Players Association at the
NFL Enshrinement Festival August 7th 2010

Minneapolis, MN / V-Newswire/ August 3, 2010—Today, retired NFL greats, Carl Eller, Lem Bailey, Deacon Jones and other NFL Hall of Famers, announced the launch of the Retired Players Association (RPA).  The launch will take place at the NFL Enshrinement Festival at the NFL Hall of Fame Ceremony in Canton Ohio on August 7th 2010.

To address concerns that are intimate to players, the RPA was established by players and for players.  Many believe Eller is one of the best advocates in the league to run an organization like this. Eller has been assisting players for years in many different capacities.

“I have been actively involved with helping players before, during and after their time in the league with important issues, healthy lifestyle coaching, educating players about “specific to the league”, health-related issues such as head injuries, dementia, back injuries,” explains Carl Eller, a 6 time Pro Bowler.

Eller has also taught players how to be good mentors to youth, he has helped players with family issues, taught about the importance of community service, pensions, finances, investing and preparing for retirement, since retirement happens much younger for professional athletes.

Eller has enlisted the help of esteemed Neurologist, Dr. Patricio F. Reyes, M.D., to help develop board members in special areas to assist with player needs.  Dr. Reyes is the Director the Centers for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Health Partner’s Specialty Center, and Alzheimer’s Research Center.

The concept for the RPA began with Eller two-years ago, and has grown with many current players and retired players all expressing interest in helping and becoming a part of the association.  Eller says, “The RPA is growing in influence and momentum, with more players being added to the Board of Directors, more opportunities and partnerships developing daily.”

The RPA will provide parenting programs and work along side many already established professional sports associations, such as All Pro Dads.  “We want to bring to the forefront this cadre of retired players who are still valuable resources in their communities,” says Eller.

As the RPA grows in the years to come, Eller is already looking forward to integrating additional services to the association, including clinics around the country for High School and College level players.  The RPA will also implement an eco-technology program.  The RPA’s Legends for Technology Program, will create technology and “green”, sustainable energy programs in disadvantaged areas around the country modeled after the programs Eller currently operates in Minnesota.

For more information or to find out ways to support the RPA, please contact:  Kandis Knight at 612-599-7852.

KA-Gold (Israel)
Written By Kandis Knight

Coupled with the growing interest in spirituality and symbolism, people around the world have all become interested in unlocking the secrets of the conscious and unconscious mind.

Interestingly, an exotic jewelry website offers a unique set of timeless treasures that have managed to incorporate the growing mysteries of the past through their intricate designs.

“At Ka Gold Jewelry, sacred science, art, and spirit meet,” explains Israeli-born artist and spiritualist, David Weitzman.

Weitzman is the force behind Ka Gold Jewelry, having dedicated himself for many years to the search for sacred knowledge. Weitzman has vast knowledge in the fields of Kabbalah, “sacred geometry”, Egyptian wisdom, Jewish tradition, Tibetan Buddhism and other sacred concepts.

The jewels at Ka Gold Jewelry are designed from “sacred geometry”, which refers to the geometrical laws that create everything in existence.  Mathematicians, geometricians, spiritual seekers, anthropologists, and archaeologists have used the term “sacred geometry”, for hundreds of years. “Sacred geometry” encompasses the religious, philosophical, and spiritual beliefs surrounding geometry in all the major cultures during the course of human history.

For instance, the geometrical laws derived from the “flower of life” produce the blueprint of the One Consciousness that created life and existence. It is said that the moment you connect spirit and geometry, you arrive at “sacred geometry”.

“The symbols embodied in our jewels reveal the truth about our identity and the true nature of reality. Behind these sacred symbols is the knowledge that enables us to take complete control over our lives, so that we can rid ourselves of chaos, fear, and hatred, which affect so many of us,” Weitzman shares.

About Ka-Gold Jewelry

Ka-Gold Designer, David Weitzman was born in Israel. He is the force behind Ka Gold Jewelry. David has dedicated himself for many years to the search for sacred knowledge. He has vast knowledge in the fields of Kabbalah, “sacred geometry”, Egyptian wisdom, Jewish tradition, Tibetan Buddhism and other sacred concepts.

2010 Client Roster: Fabulosity Takes Minneapolis By Storm

LuCreative Group

From their posh Uptown Minneapolis office, Marcella Marshall and Tasha Griffin, the Midwest Divas, are busy planning events, training new staff and getting the entire office ready for the filming of their new reality television show.  A steady stream of traffic comes in and out of their small boutique-styled office space, as the ladies calmly recline back on leather seats.  Keeping their stilettos planted firmly on the ground and their laptops blazing.

These Divas are meticulously planning for their next big event, Fabulosity:  A Pampering, Shopping and Networking Experience, Saturday August 7th hosted by the W Hotel (Foshay Tower), in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis.

“We are gearing up for a little Midwest fashion history,” shouts out Griffin as she grabs her designer handbag and pulls out a notepad.  Marshall and Griffin and a team of over ten people have planned this first annual event.  “This first event is already going extremely well so we are planning to reproduce it semi-annually, the next will be Valentine’s Day themed in February 2011,” explains Marshall, Executive Director/Founder of Midwest Divas.  “We are on a mission to make a difference.”

Their mission involved filling a void in the local scene and it was easy for the Divas, they know exactly what the Twin Cities are missing. “Midwest women who are spoiled by the fashion and beauty offerings of larger cities like Los Angeles or New York, will be able to finally find solace at Fabulosity. It is our mission to honor everything that is fabulous within them”, beams Griffin, Midwest Divas Creative Director, rushing off to answer her phone.

Marshall and Griffin anticipate Fabulosity will bring local hipsters out in packs for some much needed “pampering time” and something much more important.

Marshall adds, “People should know, Fabulosity is anti-superficial.  Being superficial is no longer fabulous.  We proudly boast our mission is deeper than face value.”  The Midwest Divas have enlisted the support of many local businesses to help raise funds for a cause very close to their hearts, Ovarian Cancer.

“15,000 women die every year from Ovarian Cancer and we have all been touched by it and decided we had to figure out a way to contribute,” explains Marshall.

To cement their commitment, they teamed up with the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA) whose goal is to fund ovarian cancer research in Minnesota, raise awareness of the disease and to provide support to women with ovarian cancer and their families.

Along side MOCA other vendors and attendees include: Smart Water, Rox Minneapolis, OPM, YQY, Zelaz, Coco & Cole, Mi Armadio, IamMoody, Gittleson Jewelers, ReVamp, Touched by an Angel, Go Health Chiropractic, Wax Kitten, Troe Williams, Vidita, Dirty Denim, Vandalism Designs, Charolette Ann’s Boutique, ETE Handbags, Starr Hair Design, ThinkThin, Thomasina’s Cashew Brittle, Body Magic, Europe Shoes & Such and many more.  “Our vendor booths are going fast, each day we have great new additions, this will be an event to remember!” says Marshall.

There will be a silent auction to benefit MOCA. The Divas are taking donations until the day of the event to raise funds for this worthy cause.  Check out the Midwest Divas on www.twincitieslive.com August 6th on Dez’s “Weekend Where To Go” Segment at 3:00 p.m.!
